In the 1860's thru 1870's there was a rapid growth within the American iron industry.  At that time Americans produced a variety of items for use in everyday life inside and outside the home.

This intricate casting took the shape of a bureau top swivel mirror.  The imaginative form, sometimes referred as Jenny Lind Mirror, would have been difficult to realize in any other material.  With the patriotic and traditional forms of the period, the designer has given a design of novel character and unusual grace.
