CIVIL WAR- PAINTED BARREL CANTEEN

Circa 1861 - 1865

This variety of barrel canteen was typical of those used in America from 1750 to 1870.  This painted CW canteen captures the imagination of a Northern CW Soldier with its bold original decoration.  Free hand decorated on four sides retaining its original patina.  Each side a mirror image of its opposite.   Back-ground color is a green with decorations, iron straps and canteen hole in black.
