In the beginning of the Classical Period, the card table took on an entirely different attitude than that of its predecessor.  This mahogany Salem card Table is a extremely fine example which incorporates a tour de force of early Classical decorative elements physically modeled.  The beauty of the composition is enhanced by the card tables superb state of preservation, excellent sculptured carvings in crisp condition, dense mahogany as well as original undisturbed patina all adding to complete the Classicism of the piece.  This extremely fine example stands as a notable statement of art which would enhance any collection.
